I had started to despise the marketing industry. I spent three years doing all the marketing techniques taught by our company and up-line. These methods included flyering, sometimes in the cold of winter, shop and street surveys, occasionally in the rain. I handed out leaflets in train stations, before being thrown out one time for being the cause of litter. I bought phone leads, and cold called. I was always at the monthly hotel meetings. Looking back now, I think I must have been mad to put myself through all that. I can't actually believe that i worked in this way, or that anyone would want to work this way now. Not when it is a lot easier to market on the internet, but I'll get to that in a minute.
All the old marketing methods used to work, to a certain extent, but it is like trying to fill a leaky bucket. I found retail customers stayed for about 3 months on average, though I have built good friendships locally and am still in contact with my ex clients, though not on a business level. Some positivism came out of it.
I have to say that my experience in multilevel marketing left me with major depression, plus I ended up broke and felt I had let my husband and daughter down. Not a good place to be.
I then turned my attention to Affiliate Marketing, which involves promoting other peoples products for a commission. But I didn't feel that I could promote stuff that I hadn't even tried, and there was no way I could afford to buy every product. So I gave this idea up.
I was beginning to feel a complete failure and totally useless. I wondered what we were going to do for money, my husband had been made redundant through ill-health - he has back and shoulder problems, but that's another story.
Yes, you could say, we were going through a tough time.
One day, while I was browsing around the internet, looking for another way to make money, I never give up! I came across a letter. This letter has changed my outlook and attitude towards marketing. It has put in plain words all that is wrong with MLM, and trying to promote your business through the old ways, listed above. This letter has led me to a community of online entrepreneurs, and the support of my new mentor, who has been fantastic.
I have learnt how to lay down the blueprint of a solid foundation to begin a successful business instead of jumping in and hoping something would stick. I now have a success plan that begins with the end in mind.
More importantly, I learned how to work on myself to develop the self-belief, self-confidence, and leadership and personal skills.
I did this with the help and guidance from my supportive new mentor, the encouragement of the community, and the step-by-step system designed for success. Now I am on my way to becoming successful for the first time in Network Marketing.
Knowing this has given me great energy and motivation. I wish I had known all this before. I am so happy to have become part of a supportive team and a member of a community of successful entrepreneurs using the internet.
